How to Research Beyond the West

In 2023, we founded Besample to help researchers reach participants across non-Western countries and conduct research beyond the populations traditionally represented in behavioral science.

Since then, we’ve worked with more than 2,000 scholars on over 1,000 studies, collecting nearly 350,000 data points from participants across 42 countries in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and South America. This work has given us firsthand experience with the practical challenges of participant recruitment, cross-cultural research, sampling, translation, data quality, and conducting research across different populations.
